140 distributor drive shaft alignment

Turn the crank so the front cylinder #6 is at TDC between the compression and power strokes with both valves closed, ready to fire (assuming the head is on here). It can be done with the head off, but then you have to align the cams according to the distributor position.

Driving dog offset, 3/8" on one side, 1/2" on the other side.

If you do this right, the rotor will be pointing forward.
If it’s pointing backward, the distributor cam is reversed. It can go together two ways. Turn it around.

Lastly set the plug wires according to this firing order. 1 is rear, 6 is front.


Why the funny plug order? We have tossed around several theories, but in the end we just stick to it. :grin:
