1990 sovereign radio off

Greetings all you fellow Jag Lovers,

Has anybody had a problem with the AM/FM cassette simply losing power?
It’s not a loose fuse and it’s like a loose connection…it does not
appear to be a short. I wanted to get some good info from all of you
out there before I tear into the deck. Which reminds me…any good
procedures for removing that deck??

Thanks a-bunch in advance…you guys are super!

Same thing on my '90, radio comes and goes (mostly goes) at will. Often works
briefly when I first start car. I thought it might be a result of heater core
pissing all over it some months ago???
Is there a cheap replacement that fits the spot? Mostly I listen to talk and
traffic and am planning to replace car w/in next year so don’t wanna spend
much. SONY would be ideal as I get um at cost.

I have mentioned I will fix Jaguar radios for free,
except parts and shipping…
Parts are almost never needed…
I have had one person take up my offer, and they
were happy…

Good, Ken, glad the relay did the trick!

Thanks for the info on the relay…that appears to have taken care of
the
problem as it hasn’t acted up since. It is soooo great to have the
resource of all you guys out there.

Ken, your radio gets its power from a relay that’s below the glove
box,
behind the passenger side knee bolster. The most likely thing is that
the relay has become intermittent. Takes about 10 minutes to get in
there and see, the relays are easy to find and there is a diagram of
the layout on the underside of the metal panel behind the knee bolster.
I recommend you get a Haynes manual for the car if possible. It helps
one understand how to get at things, with many good pictures.

I would check this before getting into the radio/center console area.
The next step would be to look for an intermittent connection in the
wiring in the center console, and after that to send the unit to Brett.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Dave
