1994 XJ40s

Greetings again to all Jag Lovers on the list! :
Now I’ve done it, I’ve been so glowing in my praise of my '93 VDP that a
lady who reports to me here at UK is seriously considering the purchase of
an XJ40. While I am truly happy with my car I have reservations about
someone like her making a purchase like that with just my word for how great
of an automobile these cars really are. Soooo please help me, I’d appreciate
it if everyone who has an opinion to send me back an e-mail on this subject.
She has looked at the Jag dealer where I bought my cat and she is very
interested in three cars that they have on the lot. All are 1994 models.
the following is a break down:

What’s to worry? 94s are great cars. Like I say though, if she can
swing a 1995, It’s lightyears ahead of the XJ40. (Sorry guys… sad but
true :frowning:

1994 XJ40 VDP 55000 miles, GRG/ Tan Price = $21,000 excellent condition
( Select Service warranty
included)

Decent price for a 94 VDP. But bear in mind… Bumper-bumper on a select
edition warranty is 5yrs/62,500 miles from ORIGINAL in-service date…
And as we all know, it’s not the DRIVETRAINS that suck up the buck$.

1994 XJ40 40,000 miles Jade/Cream Price = $17,000 excellent
condition ( special wheels)

As long as the wheels arent wires… seems like a good deal.

1994 XJ40 40,000 miles Topaz/Brn Price = $17,000 excellent
condition

Ditto above… Topaz is a great color… Very very popular.

I have given her a copy of what to watch out for when purchasing an XJ40 off
the list. Currently she a drives a 1994 Lincoln Continental, but her and her
husband are expecting their first child and they’d like to have a 4 door
sedan to cart the babe around in. They both are in their late 30’s and both
are professionals ( meaning they have good steady jobs so up keep should not
be a problem)
So what do you all think?!

For Corolla money she can’t lose. I’d say that for price/value the XJ6s
seem like better deals here.

I’m especially interested in what Bill Wiesmann thinks about the prices.

XJ6s I like… VDP seems almost high. 50K miles is a big “price break”

Thanks in advance and please help me to keep my reputation of having a good
knowledge of fine cars intact!

Don Buecker '93 XJ40 VDP ( looking for an office mate too)

Don,

Keep spreading the good word on these cars!

I’d second Bill’s appraisal of the '94. We’ve driven one daily, amounting to
15,000 miles over the past year with total reliability. I’ve put some $ into it
in terms of maintenance and cosmetics, but nothing more than any car with 35 or 40
K miles (brakes, battery, etc.). It’s a luxurious, practical and reliable car.

I’d also concur w/Bill’s comment about the '95 up being a better car to the extent
that it has more power and is ergonomically better (the seat controls on the right
drive me crazy as my wife is a lilliputian and our 125 lb dog is getting old
enough that we have to move the seat forward for her to get into the back seat
unassisted), but the $10,000 (at least here in St. Louis) price differential is of
questionable worth unless you really are crazy for the newer style.
