1997 XJ6 Engine Dies after 30 miles

Another shot in the dark, do you have a sunroof as blocked drains are known to cause water to travel down the A post and cause corrosion issues in the ECU connectors.
Your fault has all the hallmarks of being temperature related! Good luck.

Thank you! It makes sense. My next steps are to clean contacts mentioned, check the fuel pump relay and replace the fuel pump and it attached filter bag…

If this was an ordinary driver car I would have long parted ways but I do love its engine, comfort, style and road handling. Alas, if only the Brits would get together with the Japanese!

I will check those connectors. Could it be a bad ECU?

TPS is a costly part to throw at this. Maybe next time you can’t get it to go, shove your hand under the throttle body and see if you can monkey around with the TPS harness? Perhaps not making good contact? Theres a lot of heat down there, and after 25 years, the wires get brittle. This could be a bad TPS. They bench test well, but then don’t work on the car for some reason.
