2003 X Type rear door locks

Hi everyone.I have a door lock problem on my x type 2003
Both back doors don’t respond to central locking with the key or the key fob .so being silly I locked one rear door using the door handle lock internally and now I can’t unlock it so I’m reluctant to try the other rear door .So to recap both rear doors won’t lock electronically and also won’t work manually anyone had the same experience cheers

I haven’t had that happen to my 04 but I will try to give you some sugestions.

Do you hear any sound from the lock when you use the key fob to lock or unlock the doors? When you lock the car with the fob, does the alarm go off when you open the back door? Does the trunk lock and unlock?

If you do hear a sound in each back door when you cycle the locking, then It may be a lubrication problem. I believe there is a lubrication hole in the strike plate where you can spray in some lubricant.

For the door that locked manually and now won’t unlock, does the locking tab not move or move back and forth to no effect? If the latter then it may be a mechanical problem.

Hope that may be of some help.

Hi Grahame there’s no sound from the rear doors when you operate the key
fob or when you use the key The alarm goes off when the boot opens and the
boot does lock and unlock on the key fob It’s a job to hear anything even
with your ear on the back door handle because it vibrates through the
bodywork but when you cycle the unlocking it is louder on the front doors
so I assume the rear door electronic locks are not working .I’ve checked
the manual and it don’t show a separate fuse for the back doors I’ve tried
disconnecting the battery and reconnecting as some people have suggested
but that doesn’t work so I’m stumped and as I live out in the sticks
there’s no decent mechanics for 50 miles

Fifty miles is not a long distance. Where do you live?

On reflection, I think you will have to remove the interior door panels. Not a job I would do without the proper tools and knowledge. Previous to me, someone removed the driver’s door panel on my first X Type and broke it. Had to put up with a loose panel, as it was unfixable. Someone who would have the knowledge and tools to remove door panels without breaking them would be a body shop. They would also have an automotive electrician, who could diagnose the locking problems. After market parts should be available as these things were supplied by outside manufacturers.

Ok thanks Grahame I’ll have to have a think about it

Kenneth!
Do you have somebody like a Lock and Key place near
by? Before you make yourself a lot of work with removing
door panels. I would go to one of those Lock and Key places
and see what they can do.
Its worth a try.
