56 Xk 140 CL trans

Hi again:
This is my hopefully last post on the trans I am rebuilding.
I replaced all wear parts new. The last and final question
is-------Why ise every XK non syncro top gasket 3/8 short on
each end. Tried 3 replacements all are the same bolt
holes as short of existing holes.

Is it a JL transmission? I’ve never heard of a CL transmission for XK’s

Going back over old threads, his gearbox is JL35935CR.

Two possibilities:

  1. They sent you a gasket for a full synchro box.
  2. The gasket is 40 years old and the paper has shrunk from humidity.

Best bet, buy some gasket paper and make your own with an Exacto knife.
