'71 XKE S2 Transmission Tunnel Insulation

Hi All,

Is there supposed to be any insulation on each side of the transmission tunnel (I am referring to the inside of the tunnel, not under the carpet)?

Mine (69 S2) had a pair of foam pieces (maybe 3/8" - 1/2" thick) on each side of the tunnel. Can’t prove it but they looked to be original.

I tossed them and went with DEI heat insulation on the inside of the tunnel - kept the big foam topper though.

Yes, and they are factory, at least on the later s2s. Mine looks exsctly like George Hahn’s. One was missing, made a mirror image out of that 1/2 inch foam mat they sell for home gyms.

You can read about them in the archives, no part number, but the cars came with them.

I had the same as Geo in my 69, complete with the oil stains. mine are in the landfill too
