Yeah, I hate when they do that but, this one is nicely done.

A neglected E-type in one of the wettest places on earth….what could possibly go wrong?

Wet didn’t kill them, Salt did.

Right, I’m sure it’s as sound as a pound

I’ve been to the Big Island about 10 times, and I’ve never seen rustier cars in my life.

Well let’s look at this a different way…… what can be saved …… assume the body and interior are rotten ……. So drive train , probably the shiny bits suspension steering dash and instruments ( maybe) …… ….other bits like door mechanisms etc…… oh and the tags ……. So buy a new body from Uk fit it up paint it etc present it as a restored car……it wouldn’t be the first time that’s been done

I live on the Big Island, we have 10 of the planets 14 Climate zones.
Depends where the car lives on the Big Island.
The XJS I have, lived in upslope in Waikoloa a Climate like the California Desert.
Near the ocean I agree things get rusty. That’s the same everywhere.

What’s the Cost of the New Body from the UK, any idea.?

This is what neglected cars ultimately end up looking like in the Hilo area….they begin returning to nature.

Buying a $45k car from a place like that as a component donor would take some serious intestinal fortitude.

Especially now, when we will be likely moving into a recession and a depressed classic car market.
Like what happened in 1991-92 Wars tend to do that.

This one looks like it’s simply a drop in replacement for the hinged cover on a FHC. Easily reversible

No idea plus 20 ……. I didn’t say at $45 k it was a good buy

don’t know but a new bonnet is about 13K $. I think Terry’s might have some if you are interested in actual #'s

Told my friend in Hilo about it, the one that missed out on the jet powered Mercedes!

I think for how much the owner wants, plus the cost of parts to fix it.
It is a dangerous project to take on, in what could soon be a Bear Classic car market.

Maybe your right …. But people who are in the market for good quality cars are always prepared to pay a premium for the very best cars

Yes, my TR4 spent it’s first 36 years on Maui and had not a speck of rust… but it was at altitude (Kula).

Last time I checked it was around £ 50 k for a roadster ( Martin Robey ) , even more for the coupe , so defo not cheap . They can also build it around your old bulkhead so you can claim it`s still the original body :grimacing:
