Added Coolant to Power Steering, Doh!

Like an idiot, I added Coolant to the Power Steering reservoir. I did not drive the car, but did start it.

Since then, I disconnected the line to the PS pump and ran PS fluid through until it was draining clean. Reconnected and turned car over, but the reservoir is still contaminated.

I already had a mechanics appointment, and don’t plan to drive the car until then (1 week). I am going to have him do a full, proper flush, and change filter.

Question: Chances of real damage to pump and/or rack?

Feeling dumb.

Naw: the flush will do just fine.

And you WONT make that mistake again!

Nah, coolant’s not corrosive, and it should keep your rack from over heating!

The system’s going to have to be drained and flushed though. I’d probably do it a couple times. This video shows a good general method. I’ve used this on my VW. You can do it yourself to save driving it like that.
