Another 4.2 engine block variation

I didn’t want to barge into the previous engine topic, so here’s another. I have an early 4.2 block from an E and it has a round plug at the very rear end instead of the 2 different bolted on plates that came later. It’s the same “freeze out plug” (there’s a few names for this) as used on the 3.8 and earlier blocks. I’ve only seen this once before also in an early 4.2 E. I don’t have the block number handy, but it’s around # 150 to 200.

My question is when did the change take place (engine number) from round plug to bolted plate? I have a photo on the old site and hope it’s still around.

Thanks,
Phil.

I was discussing this very point with the owner of a early 4.2 OTS today, the engine has this feature. As with other changes if the part number change to the block can be noted it will inform the engine numbers that the change applied to.
