Automatic transmission

Would like to know if BW66 automatic transmission can fit into my 1975 XJ6.
Kindly clarify.
Best regards,
Armando

Do you currently have a BW Model 65 or a Model 12?

The Model 65 and 66 pretty much share the same case.
The pans are a little different but will interchange.

The model 12 is a big cast iron monster. You might adapt a M66??

Hello Bob,

I currently have the BW65 but totally worn out.
I found a seller of BW66 but said it won’t fit into my XJ6 Series II.

If the difference is just the oil pan, its not a big issue as long as the bell housing is exactly the same. Please confirm.

Many thanks,
Armando

The 65/66 are virtually identical, Armando…

Better make sure you keep the speed transducer. I think you can interchange them, if not you might need an electronic speedo. I have a 65 in the garage and a 66 in the car; the 65 has a mechanical speedo drive. Also check your final drive ratio (possibly on a tag attached to one of the diff bolts) if you plan on keeping the transducer.

Not all parts are interchangeable (valve body, torque converter, oil pan depth etc. were upgraded) but the transmissions should be completely identical on the outside. The 66 is better. I guess the bolt pattern was not changed, the block probably stayed the same…

Many thanks David for your assistance.
I’ll get back to you should I have further queries.
