Ball joint thread size

Hi there!

I need new front ball joints for my 2002 S-type. Rock Auto offers two thread sizes: 14mm and 16mm. Which ones do I need?

If I remember correctly, the early cars (X200) had the threaded portion pointing DOWN and the diameter is M14.

The later cars (X202) have the threads pointing UP and the diameter is M16.

Hi Bob!
I don’t have the old ball joints out yet. I want to get the replacements in hand before I remove them.
How do I determine if my '02 is “early” or “late”?

X200 VIN >M44997 (2000-2002) M14 ball joints.
X202 VIN M44998> (2002.5 onward) M16 ball joints.

Some 2003 cars are made in 2002 so there is confusion over models.
