Boot lock faulty

I cannot open my boot, it appears as if the connection on the button has come of and the button no longer opens the boot.
It is an xj40 Australian 1989 Jaguar
Can anyone tell me how to get into the boot
No boot switch in the glovebox either

You might be able to trip the lock by removing the numberplate and accessing the mechanism with a bent something-or-other through the numberplate mounting holes

(or so I’ve heard, not been there yet myself)

good luck

Yes there should be a post in the archives that describes the position of a hole that can be drilled to use a screw driver to trip the mechanism.

Thanks, I drilled a 12mm hole in behind the number plate about 75mm from bottom and used a screw driver to open the boot. Problem was the linkage from the boot opener button was adrift. All fixed now

Should have an access hole behind the plate.89
