Brake fluid leak 1978 XJ6 Ser. 2

Have a little brake fluid leak at the junction of the pressure differential
warning actuator.
I would like to know what the best way to approach is. ?
I could look for a new actuator, which is hard to get?
To replace the “O” ring between the electric unit and unit?

Thank you all for your comments,
                                                                 Walter

Strange, Walt,

actually, I’ve never heard about any good metal tube connection that happened to let go all at once. Rubber tubes will fail over time and anything that does mechanical work like a brake cylinder may develop internal leaks. Metal connections usually only break due to vibrations or undue stress.

In your case I’d start to address the outer connections. First, check and tighten, then remove, clean and reinstall. PDWAs are hard to get and pretty expensive. Fortunately, they seem to be quite robust. If it is not just a poor metal tube connection you might just as well try to open it up and overhaul it. There is a nice write up at https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5c6dec53b10f25d4edf0b3f7/t/5c6ee9289b747a3de8736cae/1550772521053/Overhauling+Master+Cylinder+%26+PDWA.pdf.

Good luck

Jochen! that is pretty good information.

My cylinder is not leaking fluid yet, its just around the connection.

I’ll tackle that some other day.

I’m working on the hood lock right now, its coming along, I.ve loosen

up the small spring tension on the. Works fine

Walter

Looked at the brake cylinder today, it has an outside small “O” ring
going to the electric wires, which tells me that “O” ring is broken
but it has no function on the wire connection.
Walter

That “O” ring I see was put there as a spare, I does nothing.
The brake cylinder is not leaking.

                                                           Walter

Make sure that itis only one ‘O’ ring, Walter - when O-rings are used; doubling them cause leaking…

This “O” ring is outside the works. it does nothing. I’ve never

seen something like that.
