Broadsport 5 Speed?

Anybody in the JL realm install this trans, yet?

Looks to be the same box that Welsh sells? Based on Cosworth.
Classic Showcase has been installing them. Requires cutting of cross member and welding for clearance.

Take a look at the Tremec 5 speed T5 from ‘The Driven Man’ custom built gears ,and a fabulous price.

That would be a deal killer for me.

I still love my Medatronics 5speed.

I thought I heard something about the JT5 is no longer available?
Plan on putting in a 5 speed next year.

Last I heard, they are available but there was a long delay. Maybe give Paul a call and place an order now for next year

Huff reported today on a parallel thread:

"To all who currently seek this kit- just got word from Paul C regarding the JT5 that he is lacking in parts, currently and has stopped production for the unforeseeable future. By chance- anybody out there have a JT5 kit they want to sell?"

Suggest The Driven Man also, have one in my Series three for over 10 years. Keep in mind, that many boxes, no matter the name or distributor, are all made by Borg Warner, so if there is a delay in getting a new box, its because BW is busy building tranny’s for the major manufacturers, and don’t often get around to building for the “boutique” resellers. Be patient…eventually some come to market. BTW, best thing you can do ! What a vast improvement.

I have driven an E-Type with the Broadsport box and whilst the change was OK first gear travel is too long and my knuckles kept hitting the centre dash. I know Harry Fulford, then of E-Type UK, developed a complete new gear change/stick to overcome the problem but it went nowhere because of the additional cost and Guy Broad was not interested in supporting the E-Type.

The box is excellent in the XK cars in which Broadsport specialise.

What is the word on the new Quaife gearbox?

$7920 @ the current exchange rate. This looks similar to Uryk’s gearbox no?

I have tried to get a five speed from Paul C for over three years.
He has problems getting parts.
The drivenman may be the way to go if he can get parts.
Let us know what you find out.

Just got word on/from the Broadsport- it will fit the 2+2 with a prop shaft mod, yet I furthered the inquiry as to any cutting/welding necessitated, aside. Availability is 3 to 4 weeks.

Will keep all posted.

According to Broad: “Nothing is needed to be welded or mounted differently, All fits in fine.” I infer from this that the stock manual trans mount goes in, in the place of the automatic’s spring/rubber mount, but have also inquired about that and the detail on the prop shaft mod.

I have requested a spec sheet, as well.

More, later.

Is that for the 2+2 (Which has more room) or does Broad’s statement apply to OTS and FHC models as well.

Hi John,

Both; they have (2) versions- (1) short and (1) long tail-housing, to fit.

Hope all is well.

As I understand it the Broad box is a Broad designed cast case with Ford (van?) internals. Ford transit gearboxes are very durable can accommodate pulling along 3.5 tonne and capable of interstellar mileages, he also cites the box is good for 300 bhp.

Let’s see what the market says

From what I can tell from the pictures of the cases the Broad case looks just like the Cosworth that Welsh sells???

I am probably going to buy this box while the pound is down and before our dollar drops and will also be accruing all the parts (yeesh) for the conversion. I have been studying the differences between 3.8 and 4.2 bellhousings and they are hard to tell apart save for one of the bolt holes being offset and the diameter of the hole for the input shaft larger for the 4.2. I know not of part numbers but may delve since I may very well end up with a used unit. I am going to try and tap Mr. Frank for a flywheel and multiple sources for all the other bits. Anyone know, by chance, if the clutch-plate-to-flywheel bolts are special (shouldered, etc…?) such that I can just buy them from a good fastener supplier?

Thanks,
