Cam shaft cover

What seems to be the best polish for the camshaft covers,xk140 etc

Mother’s, Simichrome, or the like, followed (a must) by a wipe of cornstarch.

Just to add a product I think is best …White Diamond. It’s available at our auto parts stores here in the US

I tried that once: I didn’t see any clear superiority to either Simichrome or Mother’s.

(+1) for Mother’s.

And a few more to make 20…

  • However many we are up to on Mothers aluminum polish. Great stuff.

EDIT: Why does the plus sign now show up as a black dot?

  • So does a hyphen! Programming.

What about very fine sandpaper,Mothers, and cornstarch topper? Possibly followed by bourbon (not on engine)

Paul, stupid question, what does the cornstarch do? How is it applied?

I just mentioned it cause Paul did, must do something

Okay, just looked it up, applied dry. it polishes. Now I have to go try it!

I will too, darn as well as the fine sandpaper,Mothers, microfiber, the whole deal.

Not only does it polish, it absorbs that black aluminum oxide that is otherwise nearly impossible to remove.

Aluminum is “sticky” and will quickly clog dry abrasive paper. Keeping the surface wetted with a weak solution of water and dishwabing detergent will keep the paper from clogging and greatly speed up the process. Once you get past 400 grit you are only removing the micro scratches from the previous grit. Going straight to 800 grit and finer won’t take out inperfections.
