Camshaft power band range

Does anyone happen to know the power band range of the cams in the 3.8 engine? My 3.8 is for a Mk 2, the cams are stock, and the motor was built in 1962.
The reason I’m asking is because I’m still trying to determine what stall speed torque converter for the GM T700 automatic I’ve installed. Several references state that the stall speed should be “at least 500 rpm higher that the beginning of the powerband of the camshaft”. Currently I have a 1800 rpm stall speed torque converter and it seems too low to me.

Any help, hints, etc. greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Tom

IIRC the stall speed was set at <>1700rpm from the factory. A slightly higher SS would result in slightly more spirited movement off the line but you would have to take into account the relative gear ratios.

FWIW…when I put a T700 in a 4.2 XJ6, John’s cars recommended a 1900 stall.

That’s interesting; a couple days ago I spoke to John and he loosened up his recommendation from 1800 rpm to a range of 1800 to 2400 rpm.
How does the 1900 rpm converter work for you, particularly at a stop while in Drive?
