Cancer, was [xj] at last - and transmission valve body question -kind oflong

Indeed. Anything with “hexa”, “benzyl”, “methyl” and I’m sure others, is
extremely carcinogenic/mutagenic. We don’t want any listers sprouting growths
or extra limbs. :]

Try acetone.–

Well, here is something that has worked for me over the years. M.E.K.,
methyl ethyl ketone. It is powerful solvent kinda like acetone, but
different.

Be very careful using this stuff. It is extremely toxic causing liver
and central nervous system damage. The damage done is almost always
irreversible. It is a wonderful solvent but should only be used while
wearing an appropriate mask to avoid the fumes and something to prevent
the fluid contacting your skin.

I gotta step up and speak. The general brush stroke on “hexa” “benzyl”
“methyl” is going way out into absurd regions. As a chemist I find it as
inaccurate as making ethnic remarks about a group or even to lambast all
Jaguars for being very unreliable. Unfortunately, anything that has the
word “chemical” associated with it gives the general public fears of
growing extra limbs and other body distortions, or rapid death from
cancers. What is generally mentioned in the press are extreme
embellishments of the truth. A recent example I ran across concerned the
dangerous explosive properties of liquified nitrogen. This is a classic
example of stupidity in the press. Were it not for nitrogen to temper the
oxygen in our atmosphere, the first time a fire started would be the last
time you’d see anything (ourselves included) that wasn’t totally burned
including our beloved metal Jaguars into heaps of rust, other metal
oxides, water and carbon dioxide. Next time you take medications, whether
over the counter or prescription, read the label and see how many of
these “dangerous chemicals” are keeping you well. Remember that we are
all basically a chemical factory moving and living in a chemical world.
My point is, don’t fall into the trap of listening to people who want to
look good on camera or print but don’t know Jack about science.
Alex, this is not directed at you but to merely point out how things get
out of hand when people make generalizations. My apologies if you feel
slighted-just wanted to clear up misconceptions.

No insult Max, since I probably took Chemistry in college before your 1st
job! But, as Dial Soap discovered with hexachlorophene, some organic
derivatives can be genralized upon for toxicity and must be tested before use
on 1-2eV entities, like us. The Benzene ring in most any chemical degradable
by biological systems, like us, is dangerous. Just as ultraviolet is in
sunlight. I too believe in better living through chemistry (and electronics
of course), but I also believe in scientific analysis and common sense. All
chemicals are not created equal. To me, any chemical containing the organic
groups mentioned below needs to be tested and understood first before being
accepted, like an SWMBO. Maybe not a Jag though. :]–
