[collectibles] Books on Jaguar XJ and XJ-S

I have a small collection of Jaguar books catering mainly for the
XJ and XJ-S and would like to find more books.I have found that the
author Nigel Thorley’s books are some of the besy books around. If
you can recommend any books and suggest an internet shop where I
can buy them this would be greatly appreciated.I dont mind books on
racing Jaguars.

Thank you.–

Please excuse my spelling error. In the 2nd sentence it should
read:’‘I have found that the author Nigel Thorley’s books are the
best books around.’’ Sorry,I pushed the ‘‘y’’ and not the ‘‘t’’.–

Brian Long’s book on the XJS is by far the best I’ve seen on the
model. Available now in hard and softback.

Rivers Fletchers book on the XJS is full of photos of the
production line which is quite good and although out of print still
fairly easy to find and crops up on Ebay regularly. Don’t pay over
the odds for this one…less than a 10 is usual.

Also look out for excellent Paul Skilleters book on the XJS from
the ‘‘A Collectors Guide’’ series. There’s also one on the XJ6/12
S. Also look out for Andrew White and Philip Porters book on the
XJ40…both very good reads.

I find Nigel Thorleys book tend to regurgitate the standard press
photos and well worn Jaguar stats and press clipings. I don’t find
they add much to my overall knowledge of the car.

If you are based in the UK I find www.motorbooks.co.uk are very
good and provide a quick service.

One book you will need is Ian Cooling’s ‘Jaguar
Collectibles’ - you can get a copy here:

Ian’s book has an extensive section with photographs
dedicated to Jaguar related Books and Magazines that have
been issued over the years that would very likely help you
in your quest. Plus of course hours of fascinating reading
about Jaguar automobilia in general.
