[collectibles] Chirping alarm

I’m a recent owner of a 93 XJS, two weeks now. severalo days ago
my battery went dead, due, I think to the AC Fan not turning off
when the ignition is turned off (haven’t fixed that one yet). after
i charged the battery and reconnected the terminal, the alarm
system started chirping and lights flashing in sequence with the
chirp. I’ve tried turning on and off the steering column mounted
switch to no avail. Anhy thoughts are greatly appreciated.–

What happened when you lost power is that your alarm
system’s memory got wiped clean. Your car alarm is
prompting you to enter the codes necessary to re-fill its
memory.

I am unfamiliar with the 1993 alarm systems, but suspect
that they are similar to those in my 1990. With the 1990,
the alarm memory can remember the codes from five different
remotes. When the beeping starts, press each remote you own
in turn, and you will be rewarded with a beep of
acknowledgment. If you own less than five remotes, fill the
memory by pressing one you do have multiple times. Once
done, your car will return to normal.

Most Jags with this alarm system have backup batteries to
preserve the alarm system memory when the main battery dies.
Considering the age of your car, these backup batteries are
probably dead and need replacement.–

Press the remote five times; the car will chirp, lock its
doors…and all will be right once again!–
