[collectibles] Goodwood Festival of Speed auction

The Automobilia side of this took place on Friday 6th July. For us Jaguar
collectors, the range of items on offer was extremely poor, only three lots
being of real interest. There was also an SS100 (18100 but with a 3.5L
engine) in the car auction estimated at GB90,000 and above but this only
reached just over GB62,000 and thus failed to meet its reserve.

The star piece of Automobilia was an original Roy Nockolds’ watercolour of a
blue SS Jaguar saloon speeding on the open road, framed and glazed, 17 x 22
inches. Marvellous detail of the car occupants’ faces. This reached GB850
after brisk bidding against an upper estimate of GB900.

A simple EPNS and wood perpetual desk calendar with applied SS Jaguar winged
motif struggled to GB100 against a lower estimate of GB180.

And the only brochure, a 1955 larger format range folder, one of the few
showing the production D-Type, fetched GB35 against a rather high estimate of
GB50 - 100.

The dealers at Goodwood didn’t have a lot to offer either. I usually manage
to acquire something but came away very empty handed.

So, where is all the Jaguar automobilia these days? I’m currently looking for
any suppliers’ plates bearing SS motifs if anyone has anything to dispose of

  • in fact, anything SS related!
