[collectibles] Need help with old leaping jag hood ornament

I’ve recently found an old hood ornament in my mum’s shed and was
hoping somebody could tell me maybe what car its from or any idea
of value. Its 8 inches long, rather a long tail in comparison to
most others I’ve seen and quite heavy. There is a number on its
underside in between its front legs.7/10091/0–

Hi,

This sounds like version 2 of the Jaguar mascot. If you could let me know
the number between the front legs and perhaps a photo, I may be able to be
more specific.

All the best,

Hi,

Having now read your mail a little more carefully(!) I can confirm that this
is almost certainly a Version 2 mascot.

These were first offered as an optional extra on the Mark 1 in 1955 and
subsequently appeared on a large number of Jaguar models.

As well as the Mark 2 that Martin F mentions, they also graced the bonnets
of Mark VIII and Mark IX, XK150, 240, 340 and 420. In other words tens of
thousands were created so this is not a rare item.

There is more information on the Jaguar mascots on this JagLovers link -

Just click on the link and then scroll down to the six-part article.

Hope this helps.
