[collectibles] Series 3 E Type E Type Press Pack

Hi Philippe,

The best check list I have of the contents of a Series 3 E Type pack is for
a launch pack from a motoring journalist who was not interested in Jaguars,
so I guess this is pretty complete apart, perhaps, for one photo.

However, this was a pack mailed to the journalist. As I mentioned in my
earlier mail, packs handed out at the motor show may have had different
contents.

  1. Single sheet covering letter asking that the embargo (29 March 1971)
be respected and that further information was available on request.

  2. Ten-page press release

  3. 34-page paper on the V12 engine (launched in this car).

  4. 20-page paper on the car - body, interior, mechanical components other
    than the engine, etc.

  5. 23-page technical specification - performance, dimensions, settings,
    etc.

  6. 22 pages of drawings and graphs to complement items 3-5 above.

  7. 12 photos - negatives 209800-209810 (less 209809 which was adrift in
this pack), plus a photo of Gordon Horner’s painting of the Series 3 E Type
    production line.

If your pack contains this lot and all are in good condition then, were you
to enter the pack into my auction, I would put an estimate of 100-120 - but
would not be at all surprised if it went for more.

Hope that helps,

Ian Cooling

hello Ian

many thanks for your very interesting and complete info.

I also have the photo with neg N209799 to complete the set of 12
photos.

In my search for the Graal (E Type V12 documents) I came across
several photos : they do not have the Jaguar logo or any kind of
description/neg N on the front, but on the back there is text
stamped :

‘‘CONFIDENTIAL Not for publication before Monday,29 th March, 1971’’

The source I got it from wrote to me it was from a Jaguar dealer in
France. So apparently they were also launch photos.

I have the following photos :

  • V12 engine alone (on the ground) seen from the side
  • V12 engine section
  • E Type 2+2 interior (same as neg 209804)
  • a V12 OTS with black hard top in a street (view of the back of
    the car)
-the V12 production line (same picture as in the V12 genesis
    brochure)
  • a white V12 OTS outside, view of the back of the car looking at
    ruins

best regards

Thanks Philippe,

The additional photos you mention without the logos could well have come
from a dealer - and also from Jaguar HQ. You will remember the covering
letter saying that additional photos, etc were available. Quite a few of
those photos did not have the logo or the embargo date on the front.

You have the makings of a goodly collection of automobilia to accompany your
car and I wish you all the best in your future searches.

Good luck!
