[collectibles] source book for C-types

I am in the precess of building a replica C-type and would like to have
access to a collection of photographs showing the original details of the
car. In what source book would I find a good selection of pictures showing
the outside, inside and underneath of a C-type?

Thanks,

Daniel

Daniel:

The best recent book is Phillip Porter's Jaguar Sports Racing Cars:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1901432211/jaguartourinclub/105-6073713-8145564

Did you ever get down to Automotive Restorations?...they are

working on a real C-Type at the moment. If you’re serious about your
replica, it would be worth a trip, and bring your camera, or perhaps you
can get Ian to take some photos for you. When I was there last weekend,
they had removed the bonnet and boot, and the chassis was sitting there,
naked as a jaybird. We stared at it for a few minutes before…OhmiGod…we
realized what it was!

     Who's building your body?

Regards,
Mike Frank

Daniel: I agree that you should go and take your own photos of an actual
C-Type; publications never have the shot you need, and they’re always in
B&W. I have an extensive collection of photographs of C-Type #34 if there
is something specific you need. These photos (along with an article I
wrote) will appear in the next issue of JCNA’s “Jaguar Journal”. Good luck.

As Michael said the Porter book is good. Andrew Whyte’s ‘Jaguar
Sports Racing and works competition cars to 1953’ also has many
pics both static and racers. I’ve also got a lot of original
C-Type pics myself again static and racing although I’m not sure
any would help you. BTW, Andrew’s book (both this and later
companion volume) are being reissued as a special limited
edition soon - I gather this will be the last ever printing.

There was a very nice pic in Autocar of a cut away C-type in the
50s by John Ferguson that I have the original artwork for.
There’s a scan here if of a
help.

There are also some contemporary articles with cutaways in etc
that I can probably dig out.

For those that keep getting 404s/Not Found (I can see them) the
mail client pushed the ‘jpg’ extension for the file to the next
line on the link so you need to tag it back on again before
trying to view it
