[collectibles] XJ40 scale models

I have built replicas of friend’s cars for them adapting existing
commercial plastic kits.(TR4A, MGB GT, Triumph Herald etc.) and
would now dearly like to replicate my own Daimler XJ40. Looking at
some of the more mundane cars immortalised in plastic kit form, I
cannot believe that NO company ever produced a model of the XJ40.
Alas, this appears to be the case, unless of course one of you
knows different…–

yes, there is one model of the XJ40, produced by KIMS Classics,
made in England, of a police XJ40. I have seen it once and bought
it immediately, removed all the police stuff and repainted it in
gunmetal, as the big one which I drive daily.

Hello,
I think 3 ‘‘XJ 40’’ 1/43 scale have been produced :

  • XJ6 1992 in white metal by WESTERN MODELS
  • XJ40 Sovereign 3,6L by MOG MODELS (built or resin kit)
  • Daimler Douible six 1993 by TRIJAG (I think in resin)
You can see photos of this models on my blog:
    www.jaguar43.blog.fr
In my collection I have only a Mog Modeles.
XJ40 in smaller scales have been produce by MAJORETTE, MATCHBOX and
    CORGY
    Best regards,

I believe the Western Models version was also known as a Kims
Classics #6. At least that is what it says on the base plate of my
example. I can also confirm the MOG resin model. Not familiar
with the TRIJAG however but that doesn’t say it isn’t around.

Western Models built a lot of models commissioned by others,
such as large model cars shops. This means that the
commissioning party paid for the development of the mould,
and the resulting model basically was theirs, not Western’s.
It was usual for the Western Models brand name to stay on
the models, and the WM packaging was used for it.
But the commisioning party usually added an own series
designation. I do not know whether these models were also
distributed by Western, but I know of at least one such
model where that was not the case: its distribution was by
the commissioning party exclusively.
Kim’s Classics was the name used for cars commisioned by a
large model car shop in Rotterdam (probably the largest in
the country): Modelcars (mr. Peter Moulder), Bergselaan
141a, 3037 BH Rotterdam; Fax +31-10-4674189

Hope that that clarifies the double designation, and maybe
the have some stock left?–
