[concours] 61 E-type 185R15 tires

I think Dan Fitch hit the nail on the head when he noted that the 185R15
tire was rated at 116 mph. while the 185HR15 tire introduced in 1963
was a high speed tire and approved by Jaguar Cars as a suitable
replacement. The original 640x15 ( 6.25 cross section x 26.8 diameter)
versus the 185HR15 (7.2 x 26.6) to some degree shoot a hole in the
“aspect” criteria especially when we have also approved the Coker
P195/75R15 (8.0 x 26.15). The germane criteria reverts back to the
official speed rating which must be equal or superior to the 640 x 15
bias constructed tire.

Thanks for the info. It now makes sense when it is related to the
unavailability of high speed rated radials until 1963 that the bias ply
tires must be used for concours. I will pass on the deal I was offered and
plan to buy the bias ply tires.

Thanks again,
