[concours] Brochure site update + UK Goodwood photos

The Jag-lovers brochure pages just had another update - in fact the front
page has been completely revamped and is now based around a Model Index
although the Decade Index is still there. Thanks to all those who have made
this a success with approaching 3000 visitors since inception in mid-April.

Apologies to the non-Java browsers who haven’t been seeing the title image -
you will see one now. Those with Java (about 95% of visitors) see a fresh
image for each day of the month - today it’s from an XK120 brochure, tomorrow
it’s an XK8.

As well as the five new E-Type brochures advised only to the e-type list a
while ago, there are another seven added covering the Avon-Stevens XJC,
Pirana (concept car based on an E-Type chassis), 420G, XJ 3.4 and some
general ‘Range for the Year’ brochures. Also a German version of the
principal XK140 brochure of 1955.

There are some Jag-related photos from the Goodwood Festival of Speed taken
from the static car displays and the Brookes auction - mainly XK120/140/150
plus E-Type, including ‘NUB120’ and ‘JAG 1’, the XKSS.

Also some details of the ‘Garage Models’ mentioned in the last update e-mail

  • they are available for SS, XK120 and E-Types to mention a few.

And please note, I do not deal in brochures as such nor do I have
reproductions - many people have asked for copies. I hope to put on a page
dealing with aspects of collecting brochures and where to get them - there
are several reliable dealers now on the Web. Note that the scans are at
300dpi and will print well on a Laser, or even a cheap color printer on the
correct paper.

This will be the last update for a while - work intervenes plus holidays…

A really wonderful site, Tony. Thank you very much for the time and effort
you have out into it.

One question: is it just me and my failing eyesight, or my Netscape 3.04
Gold (with default text and colors) that has trouble reading the small blue
print on the black background of the Index on the opening page?-

Truly tremendous site, Tony.

Found one small error, though. The b/w picture of the S-type in a “Spanish
setting” pops up a MkII page when clicked on. It should be
http://www.jag-lovers.org/brochures/bro1967/67range_5_l.jpg, I guess, which works
when manually entered.

BTW, I recognized this picture from the James Taylor book and I did not know it
was from an original brochure. This is the first time I have ever seen CWWs on a
saloon on an official Jaguar picture. Is this peculiar or what, folks ?

Another thing. I have a 4-page original S-type brochure that is not on your page.
It has the same front as
http://www.jag-lovers.org/brochures/s-type/1966_green_1_s.jpg, but inside there
are two paintings/drawings, one of a green car and one of a maroon, plus some
text presenting the model. The back side has the usual technical info. I guess it
is from 64 or 65, since it followed my 65 model 3.4 S-type. On the other hand,
somewhere it says “the latest development of one of the worlds most successful
cars”, so maybe it is from 63, the introduction year of the S-type ?

Would you be interested in having this on your site, and if so, how can we
arrange for it ?

A very nice looking (and working) website. Congratulations!
