[concours] Front carpet stud holes, 1964 E-Type 3.8L OTS

A friend with a very nicely restored 1964 E-Type OTS (3.8L XK engine) is
missing the two front plastic carpet studs for the carpets in the foot wells
on both sides and the floors don’t have holes for them either. The four
rear carpet studs, two on each side, are in place.

I checked the JCNA Series 1 E-Type Judge’s Guide and it says on page 21:
“Carpet Hold Down Studs, 3.8 2 -plastic studs at front, 2 at back:”, so I am
convinced that there should be four plastic carpet studs on each side, two
at the front and two at the rear.

I also checked my 1969 E-Type FHC and found that it has four plastic carpet
studs on each side, with lateral spacing between the stud holes of about 8
1/2 ".

Can someone with a Series 1 E-Type please check the location and spacing of
the front carpet studs and post back?

Thank you for your help.

rsstopper,

We sorted this out on the E-Type list a while ago and here’s what we came up
with. The early Series 1 cars did not have the carpet hold down studs, but
they were introduced on the production line after a while in the later
Series cars (1963/1964). The JCNA Series 1 E-Type Judge’s Guide has a
small write up and a table on page 21 that shows that break in point for
studs in the LHD/RHD and OTS/FHC cars. For the LHD OTS, that break in
point was serial number 880412. Since your 1962 OTS will have a serial
number prior to that (87XXXX?), it should not have carpet hold down studs.
If your car had a serial number is 880412 or later, then your car should
have them and should receive deductions at a JCNA concours. Serial number
880412 was made during the 1963/1964 period.
