[concours] In photo albums, pix of my 78 roadster XJS

HI! my name is RON BROTHERS, in Daytona bch. FL USA, where? would
this vehicle fit in at a car show, like a class? at a recent JAG
show I was comlptly snubbed by most Jag owners, but the regular
people liked it very much! now it is highly modded engine( 355
whp), when I questioned Jag people, THERE comment was JAGUARS are
about Eligance NOT performance. anybody!!–

I don’t know where you were but come to Tucson, Arizona to our Concours, we
have a division for highly modified cars and would welcome your
participation. JCNA rules also have “modified” as a legitimate class for
you to enter.

Hi Ron,
JCNA has had a class for modified cars for at least 10-12 years. The
current class is S3 and you must modifications that would total at
least 35 points of authenticity deductions. I am extremely
disappointed at the attitude of the people that you ran into and
people of this type, though few and far between, give the Jag clubs a
bad reputation! I’ve shown a car in this class since 1994 and
thankfully have not run into this problem.

Ron,

Jaguar Concours classes are listed at the following URL:
http://jcna.com/library/concours/2006/2006_Appendix_D_8.3_classes.pdf

Here is a snippet from Class S3:

Note 3: Class S3
a. This Class is for production Jaguar vehicles of any year and model
that have been substantially personalized, modified, or customized.
Entries must be equipped with functional horns, headlights, taillights,
brake lights, parking lights, license plate lights, back-up lights and
turn signals appropriate to the vintage.

Dick White

That is bull… So far I’ve avoided concours, for some reason, no
reason, whatever reason. But the anticipation of having to interact
w/people like that is probably a big factor. That aside, I’ve
owned Jaguars off and on since 1967, and it’s always been about
performance. Elegance, if any, was just a bonus. Until I bought my
XJ6, I’d never owned a Jaguar sedan, just a 120 and two E-Types,
and my XJS, they are all about performance, and except for the XJS
little real elegance in the true sense. While I wouldn’t, probably
wouldn’t, lump my car, it’s your car, and your choice…if it’s
well done then it’s ok. It’s unfortunate that elitist snobs have
infiltrated your club, but to make that comment shows they know
nothing about the cars but what they paid for them. Because now
that I have one, I see that the sedans, elegance and all, can move
too.

I have to apologize, when you said snubbed I jumped to the
conclusion it was a lump… What the heck is wrong with this? It’s
a beautiful car.

Ron,

Good looking car. Maybe if you join your local Jag club you
can get involved in a Concours. That is what I did.

Thanks for posting the pictures. Tell us more about the mods
you did and how you preparded the car for a show (as in
detailing).–
