[concours] Re: Concours Digest V1 #144

Hi Listers.
I would appreciate input on the following questions concerning the 64 E-Type
Coupe I am restoring. Are the lower control arms and related bracketry
cadmium plated? Are the small links and faseners on the SU’s nickle plate?
Thanks for your input.
P.S. I am in need of a 3.8 block. Contact me off list if you have one or a
rebuildable motor you would like to part with.

Both upper and lower a-arms should be cad. I’m about to change mine back to
that from black in the next couple of weeks. I’m still not sure about the
tie rods and sway bar links. There is a pic of a series 2 car in the porter
book that shows a cad plated tie rod, and sway bar links that are painted in
the body color? I don’t know if you could get the tie rod plated though
without taking the knuckle out of it though. I sent an inquiry to Dan
Mooney about these parts and hopefully he will get a chance to answer that
question.

I’m not sure about the fasteners, but I’m pretty certain that links and
overflow hoses etc are nickel plated.

There is a 3.8 on Ebay right now.

Cad plated hangers (really fulcrum shaft blocks/carriers) and control arms. Anti
roll, brackets and dog bones are painted black. All setscrews and bolts are
black oxide.

Small links, etc. on the carbs are cad plated. The only exception is the fuel
rail, which is Butler nickel (good luck finding anyone who can plate Butler
nickel, as it fell out of fashion around the same time as the Whitworth wrench).
The tops of the brass carb dampers are supposedly nickel plated, but I’ve yet to
see any with nickel left on them.
