[concours] XK 150 FHC needed

Jaguar Friends:
We are still looking to purchase a restored 99 point concours car.
This restoration should be one to five years old.
This will be a driver - a touring car.

If we could have our dream car it would be a:

XK 150 FHC 3.8S
Black with red interior
Body and interior must be show quality.
Engine should be recent rebuild.
No radio preferred.
I am not willing to go through the time and money to restore another car
and
I do not have the skills, ability, time, or space to do it myself.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Okay, we can at least start a lively thread on this…

How much should you expect to pay for this car?

I’m thinking that if you’re looking for a true 99 JCNA car that you could be
looking at upwards of 50K.

You truly want a national level car?

Have you tried the conventional means like contacting club members,
watchimng Jag publications and the like?

It’s kinda fun to go car hunting IMHO and I’m sort of surprised to see that
you haven’t found a car yet.

What have you seen and done to this point?

Cheers,

JebFrom: “Ron Rader”

Jeb:
Just so you don’t think that the only thing that have done is wait for it to walk in my
door:

I started by first posting messages to the Jag list and to the Healey list.
I also posted to the Petersen Automotive Museum Checkered Flag 200 List.
I then check (and continue to check) E bay, Hemmings and many other web sites.
I went through Hemmings and wrote down every Jag ad that had a web page address
and the searched through the web pages of all of those sellers.
I had several friends and listers send me sites that I was not familiar with and scoured
those sites.
I have joined the LA and national Jag club and have been to events at the San Diego club.

I have checked out XK Unlimited "for sale " site.
I went to JCNA web site and looked at every Jag club in the county that had a web site
and looked at all of the "for sale " pages.
I went to each club that had a list of officers and or members and sent “wanted” e-mails
to the club members.
I have check the LA Times “antiques” section every weekend.
I subscribe to British car magazine and Classic Jaguar magazine and check those ads.
I have been to three auctions in Monterey looking for the right car.
(Yes I did miss a great black 150 DHC “fully restored” for $45,000 while I sat on my
hands. Dang!)
I am going to the Barret Jackson Auction in January in Phoenix.
I followed a lead on a car from San Jose to San Diego and drove to see it. Not what is
was represented to be.
Did the same with a car in the LA Times.

For the car that I described I would be willing to pay $50,000, but I have not found it.
No it does not really have to be a 99 point national car. I would be happy with a 97
point club show car. But I do want one that has bee correctly restored and driven.
I am looking for a car to drive.
So now you know what I have done. The search IS fun.

wow thorough search to say the least.

I’d suggest to subsc to Sports Car Market Magazine, it is THE collector car
mag you don’t want to miss. They have reports on all the auctions so that
you know what ot pay plus they have some classifieds and many ads from
dealers.

How about Doc’s Jag ? did you check there site, he usually has a huge
variety of XKs.

And let’s not forget that 99% of cars entered in JCNA Concours are 99
something cars anyway… so that shouldn’t be a problem

I do sbscr*be to SCM. I have checked out Doc’s Jags. They have not had a nice FHC since
I have started looking.
Also it seems to me that their prices are on the high side. But i would be willing to go
to Phoenix if they had a car.
I was planning on seeing them while at the auction in January.
Thanks
Ron

Ron, sorry-no 99 point cars here-just ones that are daily drivers-except the
ots has no heater(never did) but the fhc is ok for winter use. and they are
both 120s, without the comforts of the 150s. Cheers, Rex----- Original Message -----

Ron,
I came across a 1960 FHC XK150S triple carb engine with 4spd/od and Webasto top that might still be for sale. It is a SF bay area car and was in the Palo Alto Concours. I believe it was the one that got Third place when I got First. It really only needed the engine to be detailed, but was very nice otherwise.
The only problem is it is reversed in color, being red exterior with Black interior.
If you are interested, contact me and I will get the telephone number and/or email for you.
