Correct torque value for cam cover screws - V8

I’m refitting the cam covers with new seals and gaskets.

The WRM specifies a tightening sequence and 9-11 Nm torque for the set screws. This is a heck of a lot less than they were before - had difficulty in cracking them open on removal.

Is 11 Nm enough?

Hi Andy

By the time I had thought it through and worked out how the spacer tubes acted I could see it was a pretty daft question! No amount of tightening would have compressed the cover seals any further - so 11 Nm it was.

The job was necessary because one of the spark plug tubes was full of oil. The last time this cam cover was off was when my local independent changed the tensioners - I discovered that annoyingly he had reassembled with only 3 of the 4 spark plug tube seals in place on this bank. I only hope that he didn’t let it fall down the timing chest (it was the front plug).
