[DaimLan] Can anyone identify this car

I apologise for the poor quality of the scanned pics.

I was told this car was a 1920s Lanchester, but an expert
who viewed these pics says he does not think so.

(He nominated psoosibly a 1930 Daimler)

Note the tri-carb SU

I was also led to believe it may have been an especially
unusual or valuable car

Looks like an Alvis , probably a Speed 25 c.1935 and possibly
with a Charlesworth body . It is certainly not a Daimler and
does’t look like a Lanchester to me , and I am certain it is a
good bit later than 1930–

Despite the poor quality photos, I would say that it’s an Alvis?

Hi thanks for the clues.

The story is in about 2001, I bought a '74 Daimler VDP DDS.

I tracked down the ex-PO, who invited me to visit him, look
at his cars, and be given SUs that had been fitted to my V12.

Unfortunately the elderly gent had advanced dementia.

He had this car, a Vauxhaul 30/98, which had $150k spent on
resto, it was not 100% finished, he had knocked back offers
of 200k for it.

I see from my 30/98 pic there is also a 3rd vintage car, in
unrestored and partially dismantled state (only a small part
of the car can be seen, maybe its the Lanchester)

At any rate, not long after, I read a story in the local
paper of an unusual event, an old man had died and he had no
relatives and had left his estate to The Catholic Church,
and the cars had been auctioned by Shannons, and the
astonishment of the auctioneer when he saw the cars.

Noteworthy was the sale price TOTAL of $500,000.

When I was speaking to the old man, and his carer, they
expressed much reverence for this red (pictured) car, and I
can say it was absolutely stunning ‘‘in the flesh’’

This took place in the Sydney/ Central Coast area of Australia–

had a look at some Alvis pics, thats what it would be I
think, but dont know which one.

From memory the red leather rear seat was finished with
‘‘button’’ style, not pleats.

The old fella also seemed to have a penchant for
racing/historical vehicles, I seem to recall the Vauxhaul
had a racing history.

one other thing, although our exchange rate now is A$1.04 =$
US1.00, at that time our dollar was much lower, more like
60-70c, so I would not be surprised if the cars went overseas–

Christopher is right, Alvis Speed 20 with Charlesworth
saloon body.
I recognize the engine from one that comes to British car
meetings in Chicago. Alvis is in most history books of
British cars, but almost unknown in the USA except among
tried and true British car fans, and not to be confused with
Elva or Elvis.
The Alvis club may recognize it or know where it is now.
