[DaimLan] Daimler 2.5 distributor

I’m having problems with the dist. Some previous owner has
been ‘‘working’’ with it so I don’t really know how things
should be. Right now there are two sets of points in there
but sparks are flying all over the place and the car doesn’t
start. When removing one set of points so it looks like a
ordinary dist, sparks are only visable where they should
come from. Question is: can You run the car with just one
set of points?–

As I understand it, with one set of points, either 4 cylinders would fire or, more likely none at all. The cam in the middle has only half the number of required lobes, so the points are arranged one half lobe out of phase so that when the two sets of points (which are in series I think) are looked at as a pair, you get the correct number of breaks in the low tension connection to the coil for we every turn of the distributor.

Looking at the dist shaft, there are 8 lobes so 1 set of
points should do it and I also have an electric ignition
module that also only has one pickup point but that doesn’t
work either. Problem is, there is an impulse comming from
the coil to the cap (when checking with a timing light) so
the points are working but nothing comes out through the
ignition wires going to the plugs. Cap is new and the rotor
and wires are the same as before when the engine was
running. I have ordered a new rotor and a new set of wires,
hopefully that will cure the problem, we’ll see!–

The distributor is designed for two sets of points which can
be very difficult to set up. I have had no problems with a
pertronics unit and once it is fitted you dont have to worry
about the points ever again.
There has been problems with rotor arms grounding out via
the rivit holding the brass strip in place.
Good luck

Best use a red rotor arm from Distributor Doctor.
