I am rebuilding the dash on a 1954 xk120 rdstr. The escotchron behind the light switch is unreadable. I know I can repaint it black, but how do I get the ( off/s/h) back on the face?
Same way they did it originally. It was a rubber stamp with thin white paint. Craft stores sell those letter stamps. Of course the Lucas people were doing thousands, so their stamp was a special with all the letters arranged so they could do the whole thing in one shot.
Better practice a few times to get the paint thinned out to the right consistency.
I have a couple of very old round decals with the white OFF/S/H letters,… intended as replacements.
Send your address, I’ll send a decal.
I use to get surround powder coated and using letraset white characters put them on.
Letraset is a good answer. It’s surprisingly successful - I even used it to redo the ‘off’ ‘car’ ‘screen’ white letting on my Mini Cooper S’s heater box, and that’s wrinkle finish black.
