Delco Two wire alternator connection issue

Ray, some further thoughts. Obviously, it sounds as if you have been successful by testing with only connecting 12v to terminal 2. Maybe you have been “getting away with it” because maybe you always have revved up the engine enough with an alternator that has enough residual magnetism to start charging. Connected as Delco does, they will start charging at low rpms. I have found some systems with higher resistance in place of the indicator light that do not start charging at idle, but must be revved. Maybe that is the difference.

That’s been my experience with a few replacement alternators on various cars. Also, according to friends, some of the one-wire alternators (early ones at least) required revving.
