DG250 Locks Up in D need help

The car was put away working fine 3 years ago. Came back out recently and transmission KILLS engine when placed in D. If placed in L the car can be driven up to shift speed and then successfully select D for the shift to take place. Then back down to stop, N must be selected to prevent the lockup.
Have changed fluids, dropped valve body to inspect for stuck valves, air pressure test seems OK—

It sounds as if the direct drive clutch in the torque converter is engaging as soon as you put it in Drive. There is a governor and valve that are supposed to only let that happen if the speed is over 18 MPH. Perhaps the valve is stuck open?

Mike, you are on track-- I will go back and look at this again to see if I can figure out if it is stuck. My shop manual is pretty basic and I am also using an old Motor’s Manual.

Got the same issue, clutch in torqconvertor was broken. Also oil was very black, seems to be friction material in there.
