I will point out one thing that I learned from direct personal experience
Over 30 years ago, I had a good year $ wise, and decided to spend the surplus in the following way.
Invest 50% in quality dividend paying shares, and the other 50% on indulgence such as holiday and my first XJ6
The XJ6 sold many years ago for the same I paid, but we still have those shares, and they are worth more than just about any E-type

Which is why, I rarely save receipts on any of my toy cars…!
I will keep the receipts for things that require a receipt to return, but after that warranty period is out, I throw them away.
Not only do I not want to know what I spent on it, I don’t care what I spent on it.

I just keep a mental tally; that way it can be adjusted whichever way I want, to justify whatever I want.
