[E-Type] 2+2 hanbrake cable assy

Huge thanks to Richard Liggit who sent me a diagram of the 2+2 handbrake
cable assy, confirming it’s nothing like the coupe / OTS and finally showing
me how the thing is mounted.

To access the front of the outer cable one needs to remove the seats, centre
console and carpets, then from underneath, drop the exhaust and remove the
heatsheilds, then with some contortion undo a bolt on top of the front cable
anchor point so the outer cable can be removed. From the looks of it this
would be a mongrel of a job as the tailshaft would hinder access.

So here’s what I did, removed seats carpet etc, removed handbrake handle and
what was left of the inner cable then with a torch and mirror located the
said front cable anchor point.
With some careful measurements and a lot of luck I then took a hole cutter
and cut a 2" diameter hole in the trans tunnel immediately above the
mounting point. Piece of cake to get the old cable out and once a new cable
is installed I can screw and seal a cover over the hole. (no structural
problems either given the hole position on a flat side piece of tunnel).

Only problem so far is my reliable supplier (reliable enough to know that
they always send the wrong bit first) sent the wrong cable. Found another
source (Glenn Olson in Heidelberg Vic) who is half the price and twice as
easy to deal with and I’ll have the correct cable tomorrow.

Seems silly to have had the car off the road for 3 months due to a broken
handbrake cable but prior to Richards photo the best advise I had been given
was to “step 1: Remove rear end so tailshaft can be removed”

Anyway, more on Glenn Olson, he makes more E-type panels than Robey and I’m
lead to believe he even supplies a lot of Robeys stuff. I bought all my
conversion parts from him 5 or 6 years ago and, probably through ease of
dealing with him, forgot he existed, funny that. I know who will be
supplying all my future parts.

cheers

Steve

I use Glen as well. His pricing is approx half of the US and UK
suppliers and his supply times are excellent.

For those wanting another supplier he does ship to UK and US. I
would be happy to supply his company details off-line to anybody
that wants it.–

Got to chime in here as well.
Had a lot of dealings with Glen Olsen and he is the best!
Allowed me to assist (get in the way) when he restored my bonnet.
His knowlege of the E-Type and it’s parts is phenominal.
The work he does is to a very high standard. He actually makes
some parts for some of the well known distributors.
He was recently entrusted with the repair of the Trusts D-Type that
was damaged in transit to the Melbourne GP.
I know this is starting to sound like an advertorial, but it is
refreshing to find a professional in this game who is honest &
knows his stuff.
The secret of our jem downunder is out!
