[E-Type] 3.8 Head Sets

Hi list
I have been given the opportunity to MAYBE purchase a limited quantity of
CE542 head sets. These are new but surplus and are offered with no Guarantee
whatsoever . I have previously used one of these head sets myself and found
them
quite satisfactory . The price will be $65 U.S. plus packing and post which
I would do at
cost . I dont know if this is as good a price in the U.S as it is to us in
N.Z. it is certainly cheaper by far than sourced in U.K. Please let me know
if this is of interest to listers and I will take it futher. I have no
commercial connection with the person offering the sets other than as a
previously satisfied customer and can accept no responsibility whatsoever.

Hi, Lloyd -

A “head set” is a set of engine gaskets typically needed to do top-end work;
it should include a head gasket, cam cover gaskets, water pump gasket, thermostat gasket,

inlet and exhaust manifold gaskets, cam rear-end seals, front timing chain cover
gasket, oil filter body/adapter gasket, etc. A “bottom-end set” would include the
oil sump gaskets, front crankshaft seal, rear crankshaft seal, oil filter
assembly/ada[pter
gasket, front timing chain cover gasket, etc. A complete engine gasket set would
contain both, with no duplications.

The price sounds good to me, but, with age, the cork gaskets (cam cover gaskets)
tend to dry out and crack (read that - “leak!”). All other gaskets, paper or metal,
should be fine. Sounds to me to be a good deal! Original stuff tends to fit better
than much of the aftermarket or house brand stuff!

Hope this helped, without seeming too pedantic!

Thanks Larry. We’ve always referred to them as a ‘valve grind set’. But a rose by any other
name…
