On a 69 XKE convert, the door & ignition keys are the same.
The glove box is different.
Which key should fit the trunk release??

The glove box and the trunk lock should be keyed the same. However
I wasn’t aware that the ignition and door keys were the same on a
SII. My car came with three keys and did most SII cars I am aware
of.

That’s because most later S2’s had the steering wheel lock type of key switch. The locking steering key switch used a
Britax key that was much larger than the door, cubby, boot latch keys.

George,
Do your iginition and door locks use the same key? Do you know if
the S1 used the same key for ignition and doors?
No. The ignition key is a large double sided Britax key. The door key only fits the doors and the other key which is
similar, fits the cubby and boot lock.
I don’t remember from my original S1 if one key fit the doors and ignition. Maybe Ray L or one of the S1 owners knows.

My original key set, which came with a three year old 1969 ots, has
three keys: door, iginition, glovebox/boot. All three have
different shapes: ignition is a ‘‘T’’, doors are
a ‘sectagon’(sexagon??), and the glove/boot is round.
After 35 years, the ignition now works on the door, but not the
glove box/boot.–

I think I’ve answered my own question. The S1 owners manual
indicates that (S1 cars - where where the ignition switch is in the
dash) the ignition key and the door key are the same. It doesn’t
say whether the same key also works the boot lock.
My '70 SII came with three keys. The ignition key was a Britax
which looked like the VW key (large, oblong head) without the ‘‘VW’’
cutout, the door key was the usual British hexie-square, and the
glovebox/bootlock was a squished version of the door key (square
reduced to a rectangle) or T shape.

I have owned a 1965 OTS since 1969. I have the original keys. As you
stated. the ignition key (sort of square looking) works on the door lock
also. There is a separate key for the boot lock and it is smaller and round.

Richard,
Interesting. A couple of years ago I found a vendor selling precut, coded,
factory keys for LBCs. The only key he had with my code was one of the “T”
shaped keys. I didn’t know its application but it had my code so I snagged it.
I have a factory “hexie-square” key for that lock, I believe it says “UNION”
on it (I’m not near it so can’t check). With that I would assume that any
tumbler/code was readily used in any location on the car with the exception of
the Britax.
