[E-Type] 71 E-type Bonnet Chrome

Every 71 6 cylinder E-type I’ve ever owned or seen had the mouth chrome.
Although he can’t be considered the last word on everything, even Dr.
Haddock aggrees on p140 of his first edition. Page 449 of Porter’s book
shows a factory photo of a 71 with side leapers and mouth chrome. I think it
is a fair bet to say that the 71’s were indeed delivered with front chrome.
Cheers!

I have a late sII, 1971. The US dealers put the dumb chrome mouth on
them, they didn’t come from England with them.
The leapers were mounted on the late series II also, I’m not sure when
that started, but only the 1971’s.

Stephan, I indeed own a '71 OTS and it has the chrome mouth pieces and the
Leapers on the Bonnett.

I have a 71 4.2 2+2 as a rear runner on my short list of possible E-types for
me. It does not have the chrome around the air intake, nor does it have the
leaper badges. The car has been repainted, and the owner has made
significant mods (like triple Webers), so he might have removed those items.
If the cars higher on my list get eliminated (or sold before I can get to
them) I will ask him and report.

(3.8)
(With the extra seat travel cut into the crossmember.)
(Oh, yes . . and of course the moon ;- )

Thanks Stefan. I will defer to your documentation over what I have
heard “word of mouth”, so to speak. I must add, however, that the chrome
must be “massaged” considerably to fit. That is because the sIII mouth
is bigger than the sII, so it doesn’t fit very well.
