[E-Type] Air cleaner paint?

What paint should be used on the air cleaner assembly? I tried the
Rustoleum hammered silver and it is very difficult to get a good
finish. Is there another product that works better?

What about powdercoating? They have a nice looking product, but I
don’t think that they can do the triangular fiberglass piece.

thanks

It’s been my experience that hammered finish paint is very
temperature sensitive…the hotter, the fewer the ‘dimples.’ I got
very good results on my delta and air horns using Hammerite paint.
I’ve used Rustoleum and never had a good result! Same with
Krylon.

I just finished stripping the air cleaner housings on my 71 2+2.
Although I like the look of the hammered finish I wanted the
housings to look as close to the original color as possible.

I couldn’t find any off the shelf spray paints that were close and
I didn’t want to wait to order some or wait for the local paint
shop to mix some up so I used standard off the shelf enamels that I
had laying around. I was able to mix approx 5 parts grey enamel
with 2 parts of aluminum paint and 2 parts of black paint. I was
able to get a grey with a tinge of metallic in it that matched
pretty closely.–

Can’t powder coat the airhorn. Powder coat has to bake at high temps…the
fiberglass wouldn’t stand up to it.
