in the last restoration stage of my late 66 OTS, i’m
struggling with the air filter case colour.
I believe that the correct colour should be the same silver
grey of the triangular air intake box.
Other people I know says me that the right colour should be
the same ‘‘sail grey’’ of the soft top chassis.

Not sure I’m going to be much help but here’s what the judging
guide says: '‘FILTER CANISTER
Black on 3.8’s & early 4.2’s then changed to a hammertone
silver finish (no #‘s available when change occurred)’’
I’d put my bets on hammertone grey…
Cheers,
Lynn–

Mine was hammertone grey, I refinished it with Eastwoods but I
recall seeing the same rattlecans at Home Depot. Pretty easy to
apply and looks good.–

My '63, VIN 886845, came with black but I refinished it with silver
hammertone. The ‘delta’ was always silver on mine, too.–

Bought my '66 FHC from the original owner in ‘69. It had 30K on the
odo and looked and smelled brand spankin’ new (BTW, he kept a small
bar of soap in the never-used ashtray to insure that).
It’s air cleaner “case” has always been, and will always remain, semi-
gloss Black. IMHO, too much silver up there just washes out the look
(car is silver also).
Just my two farthings …
Best, Brian> I believe that the correct colour should be the same silver

Good point: Were my car a silver one, I most likely would have
renewed the runny, drippy black, as per factory specs…;)–
