[E-Type] Bar Rear Seal stop leak

I finally completed my auto to manual gearbox conversion
and now see a small leak which after checking everything
else, appears to be coming from the rear seal. I am losing
only a small spoon of oil over a week or so. The leak may
have been present before conversion but with so much tranny
fluid flying around I missed it.

I have an aversion to oil leaks - despite owning several
old British cars and I would like to attempt to seal it
without removing and dismantling the engine again. I see
that Bar now has a polymer based leak sealer designed
specifically for rear seals. Unlike the coolant product it
does not have an solids in it and looks worth a try. Does
anyone have any experience of this product and does it work?

If it wasn’t a Bar product I would not consider trying it
but am willing to make my engine a guinea pig…

I realize 5 years has gone by since your Bar Leak question was posted on this forum, but I;m now in the position to try something similar. So, I was wondering if you did try the Bar product, and what was the outcome.

Me too, cuz I have NEVER seen any snake oil cure to a leaky rope seal.

So you use snake oil in your engine? Sorry, somebody was going to ask…

Whatever’s on sale…

Assuming Glen is asking seriously, I think the usual way these stop leaks work is they soften seals that have lost there elasticity over time. In that regard they can be effective in rather limited situations.

But, as Paul mentions, the rear seal on the XK engine is not of that type and that sealing formula would not be of use if it is leaking.

Controversy…don’t forget the outside steel cylinder that hold the oil filter cartridge is the perfect circumference to form the rear oil rope seal around…when one does have it all apart?
I know…it will not work…yes it does…going on a year…did rope seal with oil filter cartridge as forming tool…not a drop…not a drop…wait another year for next report
