I need to get an interior for my 66 OTS. What did you think of your
Bassetts interior? Quality? Fit? Customer service? I really can’t afford
to spend 2500+ bucks on the interior. Does anyone have experience with the
Suffolk & Turley interior that Dan sells? Is it really worth the money?> -----Original Message-----

Is the gold head correct for that car? Also, per your “moquette”
question…the kit I bought from Bassetts for my 67 had the same moquette
on the rear wheel arches, etc., for whatever that’s worth. (had moquette
there originally too #1E13333

This is quite a nice car, as far as you can tell from the photos. Has
original style battery cables, too! And if I’m not mistaken, those sure
look
like RS5 Dunlops (too bad the photos aren’t a bit better in quality).
I’m curious. My '61 had “moquette,” or however it’s spelled, a fuzzy
low-pile carpety kind of material covering the rear wheel arches and the
shelf where the top bows sit. This car is covered in vinyl, or so it
seems.
Did the materials change for the later S1s, or do kits these days only
come
with vinyl?

Jeremy. I live ~ 15 miles from Bill Basset’s shop and know of his
cutter/fabricator. One thing is missing from your MSG - What is the cost of
Bill’s interior?
Cost of Bill’s interior? I don’t know. I have heard of Bassetts but I have
never priced it out. I was originally going to get a interior from a place
in CA (I can’t remember the name right now) but I have heard that the fit is
not all that great. The place in CA was offering theirs for around $1500.
Maybe you know who I am talking about?> -----Original Message-----

Jeremy,
I recently received a Suffolk and Turley interior for my 69 FHC. The car is
still at the body shop so I have not installed it. I have put the seat
bottoms on and they look great.
I called them directly in England and saved at least $500 over Dan’s price.
I have talked to Eric Suffolk and he is vary helpful and accommodating. I
have spent about $2700 for the total interior including: Dash pad, seat
bladders, and shipping. There was no tariff to import this.
Let me know if you need more details.
Sincerely,
Shelley Yoelin

I bought and installed a Bassett Interior about 13 years ago,
Fit and quality was very good. It was not easy to install, but
went in with some difficulty, and ended up looking great,
except for the few little boo-boos I left in for fun (the first thing
my eyes go to, nobody else sees). After all this time, pretty often
used but stored in a garage always, the whole thing still looks like
new, but of course with a great “Patina”.
I found a few places where they had non-original coverings: vinyl
covering instead of leather around the shift boot, and on the radio
console, and on the central cubby box (this is a '64 FHC). When
I pointed this out to them, they replaced those items with the correct
matching material. I was pretty rude to them (facing the hard parts
of the installation – like the moquette wheel arches) but they were still
helpful.
Recently I asked them for samples for replacement floor mats
(I ruined them myself), and found them to be of lower quality than
the original ones they sent. I settled on the ones from British
Auto, which were better but still not as nice as the old Basset’s
pieces.

Try Auto Interiors of Europe in Santa Ana Ca… I had good luck with their kit
and was able to buy just the parts I needed and bought the rawmaterials for
the rest… Pete Willetts
