[E-Type] beating a dead horse weather stripping not adhering

installed the rubber strip along the bottom of the door no problem
in like it won’t ever come out.
here is my issue. the stripping that goes along the back of the door
came loose. it did appear to be a different rubber then the bottom
strip.we cleaned and prepped and uc=sed 3m 08008. I seem to remem
ber something about some seals are silicone and require a different
type of glue.when I took it off it was completely clean no glue at
all on the strip side if that is not the case I am thinking of
roughing up the glue side with sand paper cleaning and re
attatching. any suggestions?
thanks–

did you remove all of the mold release compound from the weather
stripping before you applied glue? They use either a wax or a
silicon-based liquid to keep the rubber from sticking to the die
when the shape is extruded. You have to thoroughly clean that off
before using an adhesive. I’d suggest scraping the rubber surface
with a knife, then using a solvent like acetone (do it outside)
before applying adhesive.–

i did the same on the pc on the botttom of the door.
do you think recleaning and roughing up with sandpaper and then
clean again will be more successful?–

Bill,

There’s some rubber out there from a/the major supplier for
the B posts that WILL NOT stick regardless of what you try. I
found the only fix was to source it from a different supplier.
