As many of you know I have been restoring a 1963 FHC for the past
few years with help from many of you. I have the pleasure today to
tell you that I started the motor, engaged the gears and drove
BEttie out of the shop today for an initial test drive in my

Congrats John. Its a great feeling that few can appreciate
after all the time, effort and expense to have your E on
the road after years of restoration. I’ve read that the
average car has around 14,000 parts. Once you have
personally brought one back to life, this fact can be fully
appreciate. The members of this international group are
indeed invaluable for all the help provided to those of us
doing work on preserving the E species.–

Thanks Don, I agree the total number of pieces to be
removed, restored and reinstalled is daunting. No wonder
it takes most amateur folks 5 or more years to do a
complete restoration. I am not there yet, I still have to
install the wiring and lights into the bonnet and then try
to get that to line up! I am thrilled to be able to start
Bettie up and move her around when needed though, that was
a milestone for sure.–

Me too! I saw a car from Arizona in this color combination
at the Blackhawks museum E-Type day a couple of years ago
and fell in love the the whole look. That’s the car I used
for my YouTube channel home page photo, which I regret I
didn’t give credit where credit was due. I have the owners
name someplace because it was painted on the door.–

Hi John,
Can’t figure out to contact members under the new site so I thought I would try this way. Throughly enjoy your videos. In one you are bleeding your brakes using what looks like a Motive set-up. I must have two or three caps from Motive but none fit. Do you have a part number for the cap you used in the video ? I believe it was red in color ? Thanks.

Mike,

Have a look in the User Guides and How-Tos, there you will find:

Hi,

Thanks I am glad my videos have been of help to you. I enjoyed making them. I borrowed that pressure bleeding set up from Mike Moore, who is on the Jag-Lovers forum too. I can ask him where he got it if you like, or you can message him like you did with me just now? Let me know. By the way this cap leaked – like they all d to some extent, so nothing is perfect as far as I know.

When I needed a cap I could install a pressure bleed fitting on (it was for the clutch in my case) I just went to the pantry and tried a few caps until I found a good enough fit. Most were either spice bottles or sprinkles for Xmas cookies…

As John experienced, it had a small leak but I fashioned a couple of washers out of inner tube rubber to help it seal up.
