[E-Type] Bob Milstein

Group:

I know that many of you in the New York area know Bob Milstein of

Briarcliff Classics. I was shocked to learn that Bob had a serious accident
while racing at Lime Rock last weekend. He is currently hospitalized, and
has a long recovery ahead of him. I will try to get an address for get well
cards & so forth.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Bob!

Mike,

I was at LimeRock on Saturday and sitting on the hill watching Bobs event
when his accident happened. I still do not know what caused it but it
occurred at “Big Bend” at the end of the straight. The car tumbled
several times and the roll hoop collapsed contributing to Bob’s injuries.
Virtually every driver in the event stopped their cars got out and ran
to his assistance. They, the corner workers and the paramedics had him
out of the car in short order and are to be commended for their speedy
action. I spoke to another participant, who was at the event, today and
he had information that said Bob had a fracture, concussion and multiple
cuts and bruises but the prognosis for full recovery is excellent.

For those who are not aware, Bob drives the Hangsen Special, a Jag 6
powered special built in the 50’s by Walt (?) Hangsen. Seems he longed
for a C-Type but couldn’t afford one so built this car to compete with
them instead. It is a marvelous piece of racing history and has been
campaigned by Bob on the vintage circuit for years.

Best wishes for both Bob’s and the “Hangsen Special’s” speedy recovery.

Friends…
I am fortunate to know Bob and have BCI as my Jag shop. I, too, was there on
Saturday when the accident occurred. In fact, I had just left him and his
family at his trailer and worked my way up the hill to catch the race. To
see him go into the turn and not come out was, well, not how I envisioned my
first day at that track to end. Sobering, to say the least.
Earliest indications then were that he had dislocated his shoulder and had
suffered some superficial wounds to the head. Everyone considered him to be
very fortunate, since the rollbar had snapped off at some point when the car
flipped and landed.
I’ll pass along any updates I’m able to get on his condition.
