[E-Type] Bonnet Restoration

You, Sir are a BRAVE man! Starting on TWO major projects at the same
time! A new son and a new Jag … I wonder which will be more demanding
??? My guess would be the son … Good luck and God Bless on both
projects!

Subject: [E-Type] Bonnet Restoration

Greetings:

I have been an avid list reader on and off for the last few months but have
made relatively few posts since the birth of my son four months ago. I am
starting to get a little sleep now and have embarked on restoration a 67
OTS which was mostly disassembled by the PO. I am just starting to sort
out the body beginning with the bonnet. I have purchased a new Under Panel
Assembly from SICP for the bonnet (the original was rusted beyond repair)
and also have a pair of replacement wings. The two valance and air duct
assemblies need a little work but nothing I can’t handle with a welder. I
also have a small box of hardware labeled “Bonnet”. (Are you done laughing
yet.) While much of it is obvious (e.g. D shaped washers) I doubt I will
be able to sort out all of it by deduction. (Not quite elementary,
Watson).

The E-Type spare parts catalogue shows a nice exploded view of the major
bonnet parts but the fasteners are another story. I need some help
deciphering the part numbers of the hardware. The descriptions are clearly
written but no dimensions or sizes are provided. Is there a translation
from part number to size? For example a number of self tapping screws are
called for in several entries on the parts list (page 152), part number
DAZ.814/10C. How can I find out the correct size and a source of this
screw?

I have enjoyed the bonnet related threads discussing adjustments and
resizing. Any veterans with advice for my coming reassembly would be
greatly appreciated. I would be particularly interested to know if any
factory body assembly manuals exist and are available.

Nick
